Zerek is about 100 Kilometers (62 miles) away from Hovd, but we were only going to be able to do about 30 clicks an hour. So, before we set out we hoped to some maintenance on the vehicle especially the alternator! Marvin and I started to pull out the alternator while Jeremy started bending the roof rack back into place.
We had to unload the rack and add that to the kids play area in the van.
The alternator as it appeared on the outside had only a wire disconnected on the back. So, with a wood burner, some silver solder, and some of Zeke's abc gum we put it back together. But, that was not the only problem with it...but again we were blessed enough to have the Black and Decker jump starter...that we were able to charge at our new friends place in Zerek!
We set out with a fairly charged battery and a charged Black and Decker. Again, it was raining and sleeting. On our way we realized that the battery was discharging a bit faster then last time. We thought and laughed to ourselves, “Drive by Faith not by Sight”. We continued on as Marvin brought up the Shakleton Expedition again and again. :-)
I-van did need to be hooked up to the Black and Decker defibrillator again, but the trip was successful. We made it to the long tall hill before descending into Hovd and pulled the vehicle over to pray over the city. Cold and wet we all looked over the city to our new home and cried out to the Lord to claim her for His own! We went to our vehicle excited to see where God would lead us. So, we popped the clutch and descended into Hovd. The gatekeeper of Hovd was curious about us and seemed hesitant to let us pass. Then just a few clicks down the road we were pulled over by the cops. It was a curious thing, but everyone I guess wanted to meet the new foreigners.
We made it to our final destination where a ger was set up for us, but when asked to move the vehicle it would start no-longer! A wire on the inside of the alternator had also come disconnected...a quick fix if you knew it was there!
