About a week ago, while Larry was returning from Hovd, the temperature dropped drastically and we woke up to fresh snow!!! Luckily Larry and the crew hurried to get on the road or else they would have been held captive in a little rural city on a barricaded road and Phil may have missed his plane back to America!Meanwhile, the kids and I dug through our winter gear trying to find anything to keep them warm. Then the bundling up began...snowpants, winter coats, matching gloves, scarfs, snow boots which are now too small, thick socks, etc. Only about 30 minutes later they quickly hurried back to the house with blue shivering lips, chattering teeth, and VERY MUDDY WET CLOTHES. Apparently the sand hill that they often play in had transformed into a dirty slushy mush pile which they excitedly turned into a slide. Mmmmm....fun....fun!
By the way, the snow came on our 10th anniversary...(September 18th in the States). I was reminded of our 1st anniversary celebration: while living in Alaska we traveled to Denali National Park, home of many majestic mountains including Mt. McKinley. I had hoped to take pictures of the beautiful fall colors with our new camera, but we woke up the morning of our anniversary with a blanket of snow covering the earth all around us. Alaska and Mongolia may be the only populated places on earth that snow as early as September and as late as July...at least the only places we've ever seen! (Thanks to the Woods webblog for the picture of our new "camel" park covered in snow above. ) Maybe this year is a year of new beginnings....the blanket of snow symbolizing a fresh love anew :) Thank you for your prayers for our upcoming new year...
