Mongolian Haircutting Ceremony

Between the ages of 2 and 3 Mongolian little boys get their first haircut, which has some spiritual implications that we don't fully understand yet. The Mongolian pastor prayed about the ceremony and felt God leading Him to use the ceremony as a dedication of His son to the Lord. We passed a pair of scissors around the table and took turns cutting a lock of hair and putting it in a small blue prayer scarf with a scripture attached.

We all ate many delicious foods and then passed a bowl of milk around the table. When you receive the bowl of milk you are supposed to sing a song and everyone joins in and then you take a drink and pass it on. We heard many traditional Mongolian songs and we sang some English worship songs. What a nice time of fellowship. I wonder if the early church had a similar tradition-sitting in a circle and taking turns singing worship songs to the Lord. God was smiling at us as we lifted up His name!

Eli and Saiah also got some handsome haircuts recently. They look so "tough" with their mohawks!

MORE GOOD NEWS: Saiah (5) just started Pre-K and Eli (4) is joining him for a few week trial period at the same school as Averiana, but in a different classroom. Please pray that he can follow directions well and learn his numbers, colors, and ABC's in the process! We are very thankful for Aunt Krista (Saiah's mom) and her willingness to teach Eli. If we determine that Eli isn't quite ready for school then he will stay home with our house helper, Orna.
