Bitter Cold

Our kitchen window. Cold is an understatement.

Word is getting around town. Mongolians say this is the coldest winter they've experienced in 25 years. We've seen 30 and 40 below consistently for over a month. The temperatures rarely get warmer than -25 during the day. The next couple months will only get colder. What are the implications of this? Truthfully? Depression, death, and darkness are very real.

Some of these implications hit closer and closer to home. In our hometown coal is sparse and prices are sky-rocketing. Mongolians and Kazakhs in ger communities are paying double the price when they could barely even afford to stay warm before. They are forced to weigh impossible options: food or warmth? People are starving. Many spend all their time surviving with little time to nurture relationships. Some are dying. Recently, friends lost their 4 month old daughter. Personally, our cat, Milo, snuck out of the apartment last week and did not survive the bitter cold.

Please pray with us as we ask the Lord to breathe His warm breath of life and love to defrost frozen hearts, shine light in the darkness, and pour out His Spirit of Hope on the hopeless. Thank you for your prayers as we hope for opportunities to minister to the poor in Spirit. May His Glory be known and His love be shown.
