Responding to disaster
Since Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast at the end of August, many relief workers have gone to Louisiana to help victims begin anew. Many in that region are in need of aid and food. both physical and emotional needs must be met in the area and help is necessary for restoration.
A group of 40 faculty, staff and students from Simpson University are planning to go to the New Orleans area February 18-25, 2006. We will be working with Christian and Missionary Alliance workers already in the region.
Our possible activities for the week include teaching basic computer skills, counseling, preparation and food distribution, working with children, demolition and cleanup and helping with the planting of two C&MA Churches. We hope to be a blessing to the workers already down there and to the people with whom we will interact.
We will be driving a U-haul full of supplies to pass out to Katrina victims. We hope that you will prayerfully consider supporting us financially to help those in need. Please pray that as we prepare, we will come to know how to best serve the people already in the area.
Thank you for joining with us as we serve God on the Gulf. Thank you for your prayers and for your support!
Willing to go...wherever the Lord leads
While we are in Louisiana, we will be meeting with some C&MA pastors to discuss the possibilities of serving in Louisiana long-term (which would give us ministry experience to meet the criteria to become C&MA missionaries).
We are still planning on going to the Philippines in May 2006, but who knows? Maybe we will end up staying in Louisiana longer than we expected. If so, we will stay in Louisiana for up to 2 years. Then wee would go to Alliance graduate school in the Philippines as originally planned.
At this point, we are trying to stay as flexible as possible. We are asking that you join us in prayer for direction and clarity! We will be sure to keep you posted!
Thank you!
